“Battle of Strategies: Executive Simulation Showcase” Colloquium Held
Students of the Department of Management gained hands-on experience in strategic management processes through a simulation-based showcase.

On Thursday, May 22, the the Department of Management at Ibn Haldun University hosted a colloquium titled “Battle of Strategies: Executive Simulation Showcase” at the Teoman Duralı Conference Hall. The event served as the final presentation of the Strategic Management course, led by Dean Prof. Ümit Hacıoğlu, where students had the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting.

Throughout the course, students developed their skills in strategic planning, critical thinking, and decision-making within a simulated business environment. Under the academic guidance of Prof.  Hacıoğlu, they explored key strategic concepts such as competitive advantage, cost leadership, differentiation, and PESTEL analysis. These concepts were put into practice through the Capsim simulation platform, where students managed virtual companies producing COVID-19 test devices. They made strategic decisions across four departments—R&D, Marketing, Operations, and Finance—while competing in three regional markets: America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.

During the colloquium, six student teams—Andrew, Baldwin, Chester, Digby, Erie, and Ferris—presented their strategies, experiences, and key takeaways from the simulation. In a highly competitive environment, Team Digby emerged as the winner. Comprising undergraduate candidates the Department of Management students Ahmet Demirbaş, Mustafa Yazıcı, and Bilal Konca, the team stood out with their innovative strategies, effective execution, and outstanding performance. Their success was recognized with Certificates of Achievement presented by Prof. Ümit Hacıoğlu.

The “Battle of Strategies” event not only highlighted the students’ hard work and dedication but also provided a valuable learning experience by bridging academic knowledge with real-world strategic management scenarios.
